ABC009 | CD/11 Tracks
Featuring guitar, vocals, saxophone and electronic production by Jonathan O'Riordan and some guest percussion from Mark Finlay, this album was conceived and nurtured 12,000 miles away in the city of Wellington, New Zealand's capital. The album contains many influences from the land in which it was composed including its title, which is the Maori word for "Wild Irishman" (there is no equivalent for a 'wild man' hailing from any other country).
The album features a range of styles and is intricate tapestry of electronic and acoustic fibres: the purely acoustic "Moonlight on a Rhino's Horn" features acoustic guitar, saxophone and drums; whereas the opening track "Preambulo" is honed from purely electronic elements. Apart from a vocal-infused third track, the album is predominantly instrumental. It is warm and melodic as well as being funky and rhythmic. It has been five years in the making and it has been worth the wait.
